The Yorkshire spa town of Harrogate is one of the most scenic spots in the north of England. This historic town is awash with ornate and Turkish bath houses, handsome Georgian architecture and picturesque parks and gardens. And don't forget its famous tearooms for afternoon tea.

Established as a spa town in the 1800s, the city has long been a place to visit for rest and recreation...

As well as attracting many leisure visitors, Harrogate's large convention centre makes it a popular destination for business visitors the town is able to offer abundant accommodation options from cosy family-run bed and breakfasts to large scale hotels. There is very much a feeling of 'the old meets the new', in Harrogate, with a drinking and dining scene that takes in everything from traditional tea rooms to chic bars and restaurants serving contemporary cuisine.

While in the town, be sure to visit 'The Stray' - a scenic green open space at the heart of the town centre and to visit the famous Betty's Tea Rooms, where you can enjoy a lavish spread of scones, home-made fruit jams, clotted cream and good English tea while taking in lovely views across Montpellier Gardens.

This part of the world is famous for its rainfall, but those visiting between June and late August will have a reasonable chance of warm and sunny weather, while Harrogate is also lovely in the spring months of April and May, when the parks are full of flowers and trees coming into bloom. The town is often busy with tourists on sunny weekends, so head here during the working week if you want to escape the crowds.

Night owls can party until the small hours at several nightclubs and late-opening bars in Harrogate, while those looking for something a little more simple can just enjoy some 'pub grub' and a pint at one of the town's many traditional pubs.

Those with time to spare will find it is well worth exploring all that that the beautiful surrounding area has to offer. Ensure you visit The Royal Baths, Assembly Rooms and the Royal Pump Room museum.
