You can drive to London in around an hour from Basingstoke, though it's wise to park and finish your journey using public transport as the cost of parking and driving in the heart of the capital is high.

For an altogether more sedate look at England's treasures, journey into the nearby national parks. Basingstoke offers easy access to the New Forest, the South Downs and the North Wessex Downs.
